Laying the foundation for a successful project
Grass and other unwanted weeds can grow quickly, out compete and smother small native plants in a matter of months. Suppressing unwanted weed prior to planting will ensure your plants have the best chance of survival.
Spot spraying the area helps suppress the encroachment of grasses and other plant pests around your native plants during the establishment phase. The spots of dead grass can also act like mulch keeping other weeds out during spring while keeping the soil moist and cool for good plant establishment longer into the summer months.
Koroneiki Developments’ don’t advise on area spraying. Even though we want to suppress weed growth around the plants, elsewhere grasses and other pest species act as a cover crop improving soil moisture, infiltration, soil stability, microorganisms growth and worm activity. Area spraying also reduces cover around the newly established plants thereby increasing susceptibility to wind damage and foraging pests such as rabbits and hares.
In more severely overgrown areas that have dense blackberry, barberry or gorse infestations, scrub removal may be the best option prior to planting. The main aim is to ensure our planting crew can maximise plant coverage as best as possible.
Koroneiki Developments offers these services on its own or in conjunction with our planting and post maintenance services. A free site visit will allow us to provide you with the right options for your project to succeed based on your needs and the site conditions.
